CATCH BASIN PROGRAM
Catch basins are underground vault structures that convey water from rain events and irrigation to creeks, rivers, and water treatment plants. They can hold water year round and become a perfect breeding habitat for mosquitoes that can transmit West Nile virus, making them an important source to monitor.

WHAT DOES THE DISTRICT DO?
The District’s Catch Basin Program inspects and performs mosquito control treatments on thousands of storm drains around Sacramento and Yolo counties each year using products approved for catch basin application by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA.) We utilize modified bicycles, right hand drive Jeeps, and more to navigate streets, businesses, and parks each day.
You may see us walking through a park applying these treatments, checking in to a school office to inspect the drains on campus, or driving through your neighborhood in Jeeps featuring our District logo and information.
CONTACT THE DISTRICT
If you notice a catch basin full of water with visible mosquito larvae, or if you see adult mosquitoes flying out of a catch basin, contact us! Catch Basin Program technicians will inspect and treat these storm drains so they won’t be a nuisance or a risk to public health in our community.
